About The Book:
Inspired Poetry — Volume II
Justice, Freedom & Human Rights
A new journey through history, wisdom, and the human spirit.
Following Inspired Poetry: Faith & Spiritual Wisdom, Michael J. Beery continues the Inspired Poetry series with a new collection exploring one of humanity’s most enduring questions:
How do we honor the dignity and freedom of one another?
Justice, Freedom & Human Rights walks beside remarkable people whose lives and ideas challenged humanity to expand its understanding of liberty, equality, conscience, courage, and our responsibility to one another.
Among the companions encountered along the journey are Thomas Paine, Abraham Lincoln, Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony, Martin Luther King, Jr., Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Chief Joseph, Tecumseh, Sitting Bull, Joy Harjo, N. Scott Momaday, John Stuart Mill, Friedrich Nietzsche, Simone de Beauvoir, and Jean-Paul Sartre.
But this is not simply a book about history.
And these poems are not monuments to famous people.
They are companions for reflection.
Each chapter begins by introducing the life and historical significance of an individual before giving way to an original lyrical meditation inspired by the enduring wisdom their journey offers us today.
Throughout the collection, the natural world becomes a quiet companion of its own.
Fire.
Rivers.
Seeds.
Trees.
Morning light.
Open skies.
Mountains.
Nature provides a timeless language through which the struggles of history become reflections upon the human spirit.
Thomas Paine asks us to question.
Abraham Lincoln reminds us of humility and reconciliation.
Sojourner Truth calls us to recognize the immeasurable dignity within every human being.
Susan B. Anthony teaches the patient courage of perseverance.
Martin Luther King, Jr. invites us to climb toward a place where justice and love need not stand apart.
And the journey continues.
The poetry retains the lyrical, contemplative cadence readers encountered in Faith & Spiritual Wisdom—poetry meant not simply to be read, but to be sat with.
Read one poem.
Pause.
Carry it with you.
Return when another companion is needed.
The Inspired Poetry series is gradually unfolding as a journey through history, wisdom, nature, and the human spirit—each volume widening the path a little farther.
Volume I invited us inward toward faith and spiritual wisdom.
Volume II asks us to step outward toward one another.
Because freedom is not merely something we inherit.
Justice is not merely something we demand.
And human rights are not abstractions written upon paper.
They begin with something much simpler:
The recognition that every human life possesses dignity.
The journey continues…
